Graeme Dott hoping for tussling match against Rod Lawler in second round of 2012 Wuxi Classic
World Number 11 and former World Snooker Championship winner, Scotland’s Graeme Dott started his 2012 Wuxi Classic campaign with his opening match against the Chinese cueman Zhou Yuelong. The Scotsman played up to his standards and ousted his opponent by
the score line of 5-1.
With this victory, Dott cruised into the second round where he will be facing the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School) entrant, England’s Rod Lawler. Dott is hoping for an interesting game with the emerging star and believes Lawler is a wonderful potter
who can put any player into trouble with his unique game-play.
While speaking to World Snooker after his Round 1 game, Dott said, “Rod's a great player, it's a shame he fell off the tour, but he was that good he came straight back on through the qualifying school and he's done really well at the start of the year. He's
a really, really good player.”
The 35-year-old former champ added, “I think there are so many good players it doesn't really make any difference. If Ronnie comes here and he's not in the mood to play, he's going to be easy to beat so I'd rather he was in it rather than some of the other
players.”
Lawler recently won the two-year pro tour card after performing tremendously in the 2012 World Snooker Q School Event 3 at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. He entered the qualifying session of the 2012 Wuxi Classic as a mere rookie but with his shining
performance, the Englishman showed the talent of an elite potter.
Lawler started his 2012 Wuxi Classic run from his first match of the qualifying session and successfully breezed his way into the Wild Card round of the event claiming four qualifier wins. He defeated China’s Li Hang in the WC round to book his place against
Stephen Maguire of Scotland.
After a tussling game with Maguire, the English cueist clinched another victory by 5-4 to move one step ahead towards his ultimate goal. Lawler’s game against Dott is going to be another memorable competition of the event as the pair is all set to launch
fireworks at the venue.
