Graeme Dott overpowers Zhou Yuelong in Round 1 of 2012 Wuxi Classic snooker event
Former World Snooker Championship winner from Scotland, Graeme Dott has made his way impressively into the second round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic after trouncing the Chinese Wild Card entrant Zhou Yuelong by the score line of 5-1 in the initial round. Playing
against a mere rookie like Yuelong was a piece of cake for the Scotsman and he proved that at the Wuxi Sports Center arena in Wuxi, China.
Despite the fact that the Chinese potter failed to improvise accordingly against Dott and tumbled down easily, he was outstanding at the baize during his Wild Card round match against England’s Michael White. The young Chinese cueman played up to the mark
in the WC match and ousted his English opponent by the score line of 5-1.
However, Yuelong could not retain his good form against Dott and lost his chance to improve his game and rankings. The first session of the Dott-Yuelong match finished in the former champs favour as he cruised into a 3-1 lead to push the Chinese cueman to
his limits. The Scot did not have to push himself hard to win the next two frames and claim the victory by 5-1.
While speaking to World Snooker, Dott said, “After the first few frames I played quite well. I finished ok, three decent breaks. Obviously you get confidence from winning so any win is good, but I'll have a hard match next so we'll need to wait and see.”
The 35-year-old added, “I have changed my cue, which has helped a little bit. It is only the first game of the year so we'll need to wait and see. There'll be a lot harder matches than that. But the cue seems ok so I have new confidence with that.”
Dott’s next opponent in the second round of the 2012 Wuxi Classic is the talented Englishman, Rod Lawler, who earned his pro tour card through the World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School). Lawler performed brilliantly in the qualifying session of the event
and made his way straight to the Wild Card round where he ousted the Chinese potter Li Hang to set up Stephen Maguire clash in the first round.
He continued on his winning way and ousted Maguire 5-4 to place himself in Round 2 against Dott. The encounter might be dominated by Dott but Lawler will give him a tough time for sure.
