Graeme Dott secures second round spot after ousting Barry Hawkins in Round 1: 2012 Haikou World Open
Former World Snooker Championship finalist, Scotland’s Graeme Dott was too strong to handle for the 2012 Snooker Shootout Championship winner, England’s Barry Hawkins.
The Scotsman played impressively against the Englishman in the first round of 2012 Haikou World Open and claimed the victory by an easy score line of 5-2 in the end. The Scottish potter pocketed some terrific snooker shots to unsettle his opponent completely.
Dott has now made his way successfully into the second round of the tournament.
The pair faced each other previously in the final encounter of the 2012 Snooker Shootout tournament where Hawkins ousted the Scot with an outstanding score line of 61-23. This time, the veteran Dott turned the tables and responded well. The Pocket Dynamo
must be aiming to hit the final stages of the tournament at least.
The 34-year-old Dott has been a consistent player in the season so far and has been performing convincingly. Despite the fact that he was not able to win any major or minor ranking tournament, Dott’s form was quite impressive. He did reach the finals of
some certain major and minor ranking events like the Players Tour Championship (PTC), the 2011 Brazil Masters and the 2012 Snooker Shootout but failed to capitalise.
However, he has started his campaign in the 2012 World Open with a brilliant success over Hawkins, the man who defeated him brutally in their previous meeting, by the score line of 5-2. The Pocket Rocket will definitely be aiming to clinch the trophy. He
will be playing compatriot Marcus Campbell in the second round.
“It was a really hard match as Barry is one of the qualifiers bang in form at the moment so I'm delighted to win,” Dott said during his post match interview to the World Snooker. “There's lots of room for improvement as I struggled a bit at times.”
He added, “The tables are a bit hard and I'm bit tired with the travel but I'm experienced enough to deal with it. I don't mind coming to China now - I used to hate it, but all the Scottish lads are here like Stephen and John which helps.”
Speaking about his match with Campbell, Dott said that Marcus is his practice partner so their match is going to be an interesting one and whoever loses will not speak to the other for a while. He will try and play as best he can.
