Graeme Dott wins all-Scottish second round match against Marcus Campbell: 2012 World Open
Former World Snooker Championship winner, Scotland’s Graeme Dott claimed the victory of all-Scottish second round match of 2012 World Open snooker tournament after he trashed compatriot Marcus Campbell by an easy score line of 5-3 at the Haikou Stadium arena
in the Hainan Island.
Both potters took their time to finish the match as they went at the baize. They took three and half hours to get to the final results of the match.
However, the game was an easy win for the Larkhall potter, Dott who cruised into the match lead at the end of the first session before Campbell pulled back to capitalise but was pushed down by the veteran potter to take the glory at 5-3.
Dott spoke to the World Snooker after winning, “Before the interval I played ok but after that I played rubbish! The weather is affecting the tables which are very hard to play on and I'm really struggling. I need to improve but luckily Marcus didn't play
well. I'm just struggling; some players can adapt to it but I'm all over the place I need to up my game to have any chance against Stephen Lee.”
Dott has been a consistent performer so far in the current snooker season with no major title wins on board but a couple of impressive performances in the minor ranking snooker tournaments. The Scotsman was not able to win any major or minor ranking event
but did reach the finals of a couple of important competitions which did not let him drop out of top 16.
He started his campaign in the 2012 World Open snooker event with his opening match against the 2012 Snooker Shootout winner, England’s Barry Hawkins. He had played Hawkins previously in the final of 2012 Snooker Shootout where he lost to him. In this match,
he avenged his defeat beating him by the score line of 5-2 to surge into the second round.
Dott will next play Stephen Lee in the quarter-final clash. Lee trashed the 2010 World Snooker Champion, Australia’s Neil Robertson in Round 2 by 5-2. The match-up was crucial though because both potters were in great form. Five century breaks were fired
during the seven-frame battle but at the end, Lee cruised forward into the quarters.
