Graeme McDowell and Scott Jamieson share the lead at Barclays Scottish Open after Round 2
Graeme McDowell compiled the lowest score of the course with his eight-under-par, 64 in the second round of Barclays Scottish Open to take a share in the lead with Scott Jamieson. The 14th edition of the European Tour event is taking place at
the par-72 Castle Stuart Golf Links in Inverness, Scotland.
Mcdowell stepped into the second round with a 69, but sealed it with a 64. He teed-off from the front and carded two birdies to record a score of two-under-par. Making his way towards the back, the 31-year-old reeled four birdies and one eagle, which shot
him straight to the top of the leaderboard.
The Northern Irishman has been out of form lately, especially on American courses, but with his arrival at the Scottish venues, things seem to be changing fast. The world number nine has improved his putting, a fact revealed by his rampaging run on the back
nine. Although conditions weren’t easy, with strong winds blowing across the course, Mcdowell held his own and did not miss a single putt on the back nine.
Mcdowell was joined by the 2010 Challenge tour graduate, Scott Jamieson. The youngster carded a score of 67 in the opening round and dragged it to 66 in the second.
Jamieson chose to tee-off from the back and shook the course with his powerful iron-play. He started the day with a bogey, but quickly made up for it with five successive birdies. That was only the start however, the amateur marched towards the 18th tee
and hammered a powerful drive onto the fairway, the effort helped him clamp his debut eagle of the tournament.
Jamieson’s stroke left the course awe struck and the crowd cheered the shots taken by the player. Walking towards the front nine, Jamieson clamped another eagle and made his way to the top of the scorecard. The European Tour rookie could have edged past
McDowell had he not double-bogeyed the par-3, 8th, a rare mistake in an otherwise flawless round.
