Graeme McDowell backs Tiger Woods on Twitter - Golf News
Graeme McDowell backed Tiger Woods on Twitter on Tuesday against Rory McIlroy after Woods anchored fourth place in the Masters on Sunday.
The Northern Irishman said, “Rory saw Tiger on the leaderboard and choked. The real #1 is back. All u other golfers r a bunch of hacks.”
McDowell is the reigning sixth seed in the world and one of our time’s most prolific golfers. He won three titles in 2010, including the US Open, where he had the honour of defeating Woods in a play-off match at Chevron World Challenge in Florida. Despite
winning the tournament against the event's defending champion of the, McDowell reckoned Woods’ game and stated that the world-number one was gradually climbing his way to the top.
The statement came at a time when Woods was struggling to regain his past glory, as the world turned its attention to younger golfers like Martin Kaymer and Rory McIlroy.
The confidence in McDowell’s words gave Woods a pleasant feeling and compelled him to thank the player who had just defeated him.
In a surprise turn of events after the Sunday round, McIlroy smashed an 80 to come tumbling down to 15th spot, while Woods fired a 67 which shot him to fourth place.  The performance was shocking for most of the golfers around including, McIlroy,
who denied commenting on Woods' game, when asked by the press.
But the 31-year-old Northern Irish, who sat in the clubhouse of Augusta National after missing the cut, logged on his twitter account and wrote that Woods’ performance proved the former world-number one was gearing up to return to the top.
He also added that people are wrong in thinking Woods will not relish success in an attempt to match the record of 18 major victories set by Jack Nicklaus. He said, with Woods’ game coming back to him, the former Champion would strike back at the top.
He stated, “People need to know what kind of negativity there is out there. People who do not understand the game.”
