Graeme McDowell building up stamina for the Race to Dubai
Graeme McDowell’s performance at the Hong Kong Open this weekend has left him only €291,000 short of current leader of the Race to Dubai Money List. McDowell finished fifth behind the winner of the event, Ian Poulter and is now
determined to beat Martin Kaymer for the Dubai Championship this weekend.  Martin Kaymer is currently leading the money list with €3,207,229
With just a narrow margin left, there is no doubt Graeme is excited and more passionate about gaining the European number one title.
McDowell carded 19 under par to finish three strokes behind the winner who was also his Ryder Cup team mate. ‘GMac’ came into the final round just two shots behind the leader but couldn’t take the title due to two bogeys in his
first three holes. It was the four birdies on the back nine that saved him but even those brilliant shots weren’t enough to secure a victory. Despite not winning, the U.S Open Champion wasn’t discouraged and was satisfied with the way he played.
McDowell said that he simply has to play well next week.
"I can't control Martin's ball; I can only control mine. I'm going to go in there next week and try to play my own game. I have a few things to brush up on before Thursday, but all in all, I have been driving the ball great, which
is key to next week and I'm feeling really good about my game. I'm playing well enough to win next week and that's all I can ask for,” said the champion golfer.
In order to top the money list, Graeme has to finish in the top three at the Dubai World Championship next week. Even if McDowell does come in third place, Kaymer will still be leading even if he’s in 20th place. Lucky
for the German, if he comes third with McDowell in second, he would still be on top. Of course, if Graeme were to win the £776,000 first prize, he would win the race.
Last year, the Race to Dubai was won by current World Number One Lee Westwood. Westwood is in third place on the list with £2,017,459.
Along with winning the first prize, there is also a bonus of £932,024 for being number one. With more than £1.7million at stake next weekend, it’s no wonder Kaymer and McDowell are in close competition to finish first.
