Graeme McDowell excited about challenge at Congressional Country Club – Golf update
Looking over at the golf course where he will defend his US Open title next month, Graeme McDowell didn’t look too optimistic. The player was shocked by the course during a practice round after he realized how tough the hole had become. The Northern Irishman
said that the front nine at the course really beat him up. Specifically mentioning the 523-yard par four 18thhole, the player said that it was the toughest hole he has ever played.
The US Open is scheduled to take place at the Congressional country Club in Bethesda Maryland from June 16th till June 19th. Being the second major event of the season, the US Open has a grand purse of $7,500,000.
The player is hoping that not all the back tees will be used for the US Open because that will make the course nearly 7600 yards. Along with the eighteenth hole, McDowell talked about the eleventh hole and how it was really out of his reach. The player said
that maybe it was his practice round and he didn’t give his best so the course seemed really hard. McDowell said that he isn’t very happy with his game right now. Especially talking about his long game, the player said that he is currently experiencing a slump
in form.
Last year, McDowell became the first European winner of the US Open since Tony Jacklin in 1970. Having a really good year in 2010, the player also emerged as the Ryder Cup hero as he holed the winning putt. Winning his individual match against Hunter Mahan,
McDowell confirmed the European victory over the American team at the Ryder Cup in Wales last year.
“It was all so easy there at the end of the last season and the start of this year. The game can beat you up sometimes and I'm certainly starting to appreciate the good times now,” said McDowell."I am looking forward to the challenge of digging my way out
of this again and getting back to playing well. Every now and again you need a bit of a kick in the butt."
The player is looking forward to the challenge that he faces at the Congressional Country Club.
