Graeme McDowell gives in to Yang Yong-eun at WGC Accenture Match Play Championship
The biggest causality of the day came out to be Graeme McDowell who was shown the door by the South Korean, Yang Yong-eun, losing 3 & 2, on the third round of WGC Accenture Match Play Championship. McDowell who had done well for himself so far in the championship
and was poised to reach the semis, probably took the Asian for granted. Yang hammered three consecutive birdies for the first four holes, which was quite an accomplishment for the 43rd seed. McDowell, the present defending Champion of the US Open,
continued to offer stiff resistance but the Korean persisted with his steady efforts, ending the match with a birdie at par-three 16th.
"He was a tough man to beat today and to be brutally honest, I was frustrated with my game all week," McDowell told reporters after the match at Dove Mountain's Ritz-Carlton Golf Club. "I hit a lot of average shots for me."
McDowell was able to beat Heath Slocum in the first round match of the Championship and later Englishman, Ross Fisher, in the second round.  After his exit, Luke Donald will be the only Brit competing in the Championship. Reaching the third round was not
an ordinary accomplishment for the Irishman, something, he was not able to achieve in his last five appearances in the tournament. McDowell also managed to clinch the world number four position with his performance in the Championship.
"It was my best ever performance in this tournament. Not saying much for me, but I really enjoyed the week." McDowell replied talking to the reporters. "A lot of positives to take away from the week."
The South Korean Yang Yong-eun, who dumped Tiger Woods in the 2009 PGA Championship, was seen in high spirits after making it through to the quarter finals, wittingly maneuvering his way through the giants of the game. “It feels great to win over Graeme,"
said Yang. "I think my overall condition is good, and just because I won today, my condition feels better." The 39-year-old Korean will now face Matt Kuchar who beat Rickie Fowler 2 & 1.
