Graeme McDowell hoping for a positive finish to the Honda Classic – Golf news
Graeme McDowell has said that he is not giving up on hope despite producing a terrible scorecard in the 36-hole session of the ongoing Honda Classic being played at the PGA National Resort & Spa’s Champion Course in Florida.
The 31-year-old Northern Irish admitted, “All in all it's been a brutal couple of days and I'm very happy to hang in there the way I have. You are never very happy with four over par but this is a par-70 golf course, which is hard at the best of times.”
McDowell stepped onto the Champions Course as the favourite, owing to his form and his recent performance in the Accenture Match Play Championship, but could not live up to the expectations. He opened with a score of 2-over par and attained par in the second
round.
The par has left him four strokes shy of the leader, which means he still has chances to catch up on the lead. But with his changing long game and short game suffering, chances of him fulfilling the bid seem less.
The 2010 US Open winner was seen struggling on the tees and the greens in the first round, when he shaded three bogeys in the front. Weather was held the culprit in the case, but the Friday dawn saw him once again faltering at the greens.
The resident of Portrush made use of the putter for the 30th time in the day, which was a little more than Thursday’s. The leader Kyle Stanley had only 26 putts.
Despite failing to counter the weather and the course, McDowell is hopeful that he will have a decent finish at the end of the day. The player told the press that his short game needed adjustment since couple of weeks and he had been working on it. He said
that he had achieved the desired results, but the scorecard showed otherwise.
In addition to the short game, McDowell complained that his long game was out of sync which was evident from the number of errand tee shots that he drove all over the course.
