Graeme McDowell leads World Challenge after 54-holes
Once again, the weather had its fair share in the day’s play at Sherwood Golf Club. The conditions were soggy.
Nevertheless, players were allowed to lift the ball and clean the area before putting them on to fairway. Still, they had a tough time playing under those circumstances.
Tiger Woods faced a few problems playing under such conditions, whereas Graeme McDowell continued on his brilliant form. The Irishman carded a bogey free round of four-under, 68 to take a two-shot lead going in to Sunday’s decider.
McDowell is in sublime form, this is his third consecutive round in the 60s, that too, in tough conditions. The world number twenty four carded four birdies on Saturday, giving a very steady and calm performance.
"Bogey-free is always nice on any golf course," McDowell said. "It would have been nice to pick a few more up on the way in I guess, finishing with seven straight pars when there are some chances out there”.
The Irishman loves playing in this tournament. He was runner-up in 2009 but made amends a year later by winning the World Challenge in 2010.
"But two shots ahead going into Sunday, I'll take that any week, anywhere, any time. It's right where you need to be".
Keegan Bradley did manage to cut short the lead at the top of the table by carding a five-under, 67. McDowell was leading the tournament by three strokes after 36 holes but after a magnificent round by Bradley, the lead was cut short to two.
The title race mainly is between Bradley and McDowell. Woods is five shots behind the leader and only an extraordinary performance can earn him his sixth World Challenge title.
It has been an impressive display from the world number fifteen. Bradley has been under pressure after the belly putter row but the positive thing is that he has not let it affect his game.
Although McDowell leads the tournament by two strokes, he has a fired up Bradley on his tail. The Irishman will need to shoot another low round on Sunday to ensure that Bradley does not spoil his party.
