Graeme McDowell was named the new world number seven in the new golf ranking
The Ryder Cup star and European star golfer Graeme McDowell has successfully clinched the world number seven rank of golf. The current ranking is his career’s best golf ranking in the result of his superb win over Tiger Woods in the Chevron
World Challenge golf event in California.
In the Chevron World Challenge event the Northern Irishman Graeme McDowell displayed his talent with class in an impressive way. Before the final round of the event the thirty-four year old American golfing ace Tiger Woods was leading the score board of
the event with a lead of four shots over his rival. But McDowell kept his head and overtook the lead and won the Chevron cup on play-offs to finish his season in a superb way.
The Chevron championship title was the fourth title of McDowell in this season. Now the Irish veteran has improved his ranking from the world number twelfth to the world number eighth. However the time is not very lucky for his compatriot arch rival Rory
McIlroy as the twenty-one year old fell to the world number eleventh position from tenth. Moreover, the disappointing finish of Chevron World Challenge has added a bit worry for the former world champ Tiger Woods as his arch rival and current world number
one Lee Westwood has broadened his lead by winning the Nedbank Championship in Sun City. According to the sports news reports, the thirty-seven year old Englishman Lee Westwood now lead the current world number two Tiger Woods by 0.8 points.
Lee Westwood has also criticized the decision of the Professional Golfer’s Association for not selecting Rory Mcllroy for the rookie of the year award. It is to be notified that the Professional Golfer’s Association has selected the young American golfer
Rickie Fowler for the rookie of the year award. The world champ Lee Westwood is of the view that the Irishman Rory Mcllroy performed brilliantly this season and he was the most deserving player for the rookie-of-the-year award.
It is to be noticed that Rory Mcllroy triumphed the victory in the Quail Hollow Golf Championship whereas the Ryder Cup star Rory also managed to finish in the top three at the (Professional Golfer’s Association) Event. On the other hand Rickie Fowler finished
the Phoenix Cup on the second spot. It is also to be remembered that Fowler has finished the season with four positions high in the money list. But Mcllroy’s average winning amount per tournament remained higher than Fowler. That is probably the case that
Lee Westwood seemed a little unhappy with the decision of Golf Association of selecting Rickie Fowler for the rookie of the year award.
Lee Westwood expressed his thoughts about the matter in an interview and said that Rory Mcllroy has played pretty remarkable throughout the year. He added that his performance in the Quail Hollow golf event was amazing and he would have been a better choice
for the rookie award. Westwood said that despite the fact that Fowler is a tremendous play-maker but according to him Rory displayed a better game of golf as compared to Rickie Fowler.
Westwood added that Rory Mcllroy showed his class and talent in an honest way at Celtic Manor in the Ryder Cup. The Englishman continued that he has not been able to understand the selection criteria of PGA for the awards. He said that he is not happy with
the decision of the Association.
The new ranking of golf has given Graeme McDowell a new inspiration for a better performance in the next season. However it has given a new boost to the other golfers like Lee Westwood. Now the real test for the former world number one Tiger Woods has just
started and now he has to give his best to shorten the lead of Westwood; if he really wants to snatch the world number one rank back.
