Graeme McDowell not letting go his US Open dream, runner-up eyes the next US Open opportunity!
Graeme McDowell ended the US Open as a runner-up and with a silver medal hanging around his neck. For some, it may be an achievement, but for McDowell, it was frustrating.
The 2010 US Open champion was the most impressive golfer in the US Open this year. Falling short in front of Webb Simpson was just a matter of luck because, technically, McDowell had an edge over the champion.
His play was flawless and had precision peaking heights. It was the final round when McDowell missed a birdie putt at 25 feet on the 18th
hole that changed the entire tournament for the 32-yeaer-old.
McDowell’s emotions are a mixture of pride, frustration and disappointment. He is happy about the quality of play he demonstrated but is disappointed with his finishing score.
“There's a mixture of emotions inside me, disappointment, deflation, pride. But mostly, just frustration,” said the runner-up.
The US Open was much more devastating for the world number one Luke Donald as compared to McDowell. Donald mentioned before the US Open that he is facing enormous pressure at his back, due to the entire England eyeing him closely for a splendid performance
at the event.
This pressure ended up being fatal for Donald, as he could not perform as it was thought.
Last year’s US Open champion McIlroy was among the top disappointments this season. All he did was to complain about the course being too tough. However, McIlroy outclassed the very course in his last year’s triumphant US Open victory.
Tiger Woods is also on the list because of his last round glitch. Woods was working hard for the US Open and appeared impressive in the starting rounds but fell apart eventually.
McDowell appreciated his efforts for the hard work he put up and admitted that it was definitely worth a try.
“This is sort of a new experience for me, I suppose, finishing second at a major championship, I would rather have tried and failed than have never tried at all. I think someone fairly familiar must said that,” said the silver medallist at the US Open 2012.
McDowell is eyeing the next US Open opportunity to get his hands on the trophy. It was an impressive effort by the golfer and things are cultivating in the right direction for McDowell.
