Graeme McDowell ready to face Rory McIlroy in the Volvo Match Play Championship
2010 US Open winner Graeme McDowell is looking forward to playing with Rory McIlroy in the Volvo Match Play Championship in Spain. The duo will come face to face in the Last-16 of the tournament taking place in Spain.
McDowell defeated Open Championship winner, Louis Oosthuizen 3 and 1. The northern Irishman was doing really well as he birdied six holes whereas Oosthuizen could only manage three birdies. In the second day, McDowell again had a 1 up victory over Jhonattan Vegas.
Leading his group at Finca Cortesin, the player is looking forward to facing McIlroy.
Rory McIlroy, who recently suffered a Masters meltdown at Augusta, would have avoided facing McDowell. Had McIlroy beat Nicolas Colsaerts, he would be facing a different opponent. Losing to McDowell, 3 and 2, McIlroy is also somewhat excited about the battle.
Making six birdies in the first day, McIlroy defeated the South African player Retief Goosen. On hole number fifteen, he made another birdie and furthers pars by Goosen led McIlroy to victory.
In the second round, Colsaerts seemed to be on top of his game as he made fewer bogeys than McIlroy. The northern Irishman bogeyed his first hole, giving Colsaerts a one-up lead. With Colsaerts birdying hole number three, his

lead was 2-up, when McIlroy was awarded a point due to Colsaerts bogeying hole number five. On a roll, Colsaerts made back to back birdies on sixth, seventh, and eighth hole. McIlroy did put up a good fight as he birdied the ninth but then gave Colsaerts another
point by bogeying hole number 11. Making a birdie on the 12th hole, McIlroy lost to Colsaerts 3 & 2.
“He beats me every time we play together,” said McDowell about McIlroy.“But

this is the Northern Ireland match play championship and I'm hoping it's going

to be different. It's the Volvo World Match Play and the pressure is on. I am

sure he will expect to beat me, but it will be a great game and I am excited

about it.”
With both of the players being amazing golfers and also very good friends, the match play round between them will surely be interesting to follow.
