Graeme McDowell still in the lead at Qatar Masters, battles cruel weather

Qatar Masters might have reached close to the brink of devastation by the destruction caused by the sandstorm known as ‘Shamal’ but it was the spirit of golfers that it could wither off.
Graeme McDowell might not have got complete relief by putting eye drops in his eyes to insulate himself from the storm.
However, he was definitely able to keep himself among the lead by teeing a one-over par 73, despite the sand blaster and its repercussions.
"I felt like I was playing golf in a sand blaster and that’s the only way you can describe it. I contemplated playing in shades at one point. I was using eye drops during the round and even now my eyes are still stinging," he said.
He continued, "I was lucky I am not wearing contacts as it was brutal out there, there was a huge amount of sand out there”.
He further added that all the golfers will have to prepare themselves for dodging all these problems.
However, he was still quite skeptic about this, as he knew that the direction and momentum of the wind will obviously pace up in the days to come.
Since the beginning of the event, it has been the Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez, with the help of his four birdies, to grab the top position in the event.
The second position was subsequently taken by American golfer John Daly, with the help of the 67 points that he scored in the event.
He was later followed by Korean golfer KJ Choi. It is also important to mention here that Daly is also being accompanied with other players, Todd Hamilton and Shaun Michael, who will also be taking part in the upcoming European Tour.
Among all others, it has been the performance of Paul Lawrie that remained particularly disappointing.
With his consecutive bogeys on his three holes, he was left with nothing but sour taste of the event already disturbed and disrupted by the sand storm.
"I’ve got sand in my eyes, my mouth, and it was just unbelievable," he said.
It will definitely be very interesting to see the twists and turns in the upcoming days during the event and what new challenges will the golfers face as the tournament proceeds.
