Graeme McDowell takes children to a vacation to Disney World under G-Mac Foundation initiative
Leading Northern Irish golfer, Graeme McDowell has now taken a different route to fame after a disappointing season last year and is now all set to take a group of seven children and their families to the Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
The tour has been arranged under the banner of G-Mac Foundation in collaboration with Aer Lingus.
All seven children are chronic Cardiac cases and McDowell with his G-Mac Foundation has been engaged in the treatment and research of the dreadful disease in children for several years.
The children are under treatment in Our Ladies Children’s Hospital in Crumlin and the visit has been arranged by McDowell’s personal efforts in this regard.
Graeme McDowell, said, “I’m delighted that Aer Lingus were able to partner with my Foundation on this initiative. These children and their families have been through so much and we are honoured to be in a position to help them celebrate their recovery with
a trip such as this. Aer Lingus have been great supporters of my Foundation and I'm delighted to have them on board. To fly the children and their families out here for the few days is incredible and I am sure it is something they will never forget”.
McDowell has come out of a tough season last year where he wasn’t able to lift a single trophy through the 12-month stretch on either side of the Atlantic.
Winner of the 2010 US Open, McDowell has remained in contention for several titles trough the year but failed to break his winless streak over the same period.
The foundation, a latest venture by McDowell, supports the cardiac patients in Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the United States.
The organisation has been working in collaboration with children’s medical research and the main children’s hospitals in Dublin and Belfast, and is hoping to raise funds to support the on-going research.
McDowell also lauded Aer Lingus for supporting his foundation and all the necessary help they have provided to help the new organisation sustain the charity bid so far.
He also added that the smiles on the faces of all the children and their families have been a rejuvenating experience for the Ulsterman and hoped that the initiative will be taken to a new level given the warm collaboration of the two organisations.
McDowell, ranked 17th on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), surged to number five after his glorious run in 2010 where he won several titles including the coveted US Open at Pebble Beach.
His participation in the Ryder Cup team also proved elementary when he defeated Matt Kuchar in the final individual round to guide Europe to a glorious victory.
For the moment, McDowell is lurking in obscurity and hasn’t won a title for considerable period of time. He is hoping to the return to the first major event of the year, the Masters at Augusta National to bag another major title of his career.
