Graeme McDowell tied at the 6th place – British Open
The second day of the 141st British Championship Open 2012 comes to an end. The four-day event started from the 19th of July and is supposed to end on the 22nd of July. The best players from all over the world have gathered
at the Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Course to compete for the oldest and the most prestigious trophy in golf, the Claret Jug.
This year many surprises are expected, many players have lived up to their names while others have failed. The last year’s winner of the Open, the Northern Irish professional golfer Darren Clarke was looking to defend his title. This year, after the first
day he is on the bottom of the leaderboard.
Many big names are included in this tournament, the list also includes Graeme McDowell. McDowell was successful in pulling off a decent start.
He had a magnificent front nine. He started off with a birdie on the third hole. Then he scored a bogey on the sixth, which was followed by three consecutive birdies starting from the seventh hole.
After the front nine, his score was three-under par. This was a magnificent start for the 32-year-old.
McDowell’s back nine was not as good as his front nine. He was able to card two birdies, on the eleventh and sixteenth hole. His back nine also included two bogeys, on the fifteenth and eighteenth hole.
His score on the back nine was par and his total score after the end of the first day was three-under par. He completed the par 70 course in just 67 shots.
The Irishman finished the day tied at the sixth position, with Toshinori Muto, Rory McIlroy, Steve Stricker, Peter Hanson, Ernie Els, Bubba Watson and Tiger Woods.
He was just three strokes behind the leader Adam Scott, who finished the day with a marvelous six-under par.
This was just after the first day. Still, three days remain in the tournament at the Lytham. Anything could happen.
Graeme McDowell has a good chance of winning the Open. He just needs to focus and play a consistent game in the next three days.
