Graeme McDowell to back Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy became the new golf sensation in very little time. In the beginning, he was very consistent and impressed the crowd time and again. Unfortunately for the young Northern Irish professional golfer, he has lost his magic.
McIlroy is not playing as well as he used to. His numbers have gone down and he is playing quite mediocre golf. Currently, he is on number three in the world golf ranking and is hanging at the spot by a thread.
In the last few months, he has been playing simply bad golf. He missed 3 cuts out of the last five tournaments he played in. He had a very poor eight-over par at the British Open and was 15 strokes behind the leader.
At this time, Graeme McDowell has arrived to back up the young Irish player. McDowell is of the opinion that the Ryder Cup is going to put the youngster right on track and even if it does not, it will give back the player his mojo.
According to McDowell the 23-year-old has been travelling more than usual to see his girlfriend, Caroline Wozniacki. This has caused too much fatigue for McIlroy and it is wearing him down a little bit.
In an interview Graeme McDowell said, “Of all the weeks, The Ryder Cup is the one where if you went in a little bit tired, you can find it in the tank. Motivation is automatic at The Ryder Cup. You have friends and colleagues who are going to pick you up
off the floor. I don’t think there will be any lack of energy in that team room”.
“This is the meat and bones of the season and it’s a good time of the year to be playing well and feeling fairly fresh. There is no doubt about it, seven events in nine weeks is fairly intense. You want to be up for it, you want to be ready,” McDowell added.
Currently McIlroy has arrived at the Firestone CC for the Bridgestone Invitational. He has arrived early at the course for some extra practice, so that he can be ready for the Ryder Cup.
