Graeme McDowell’s 2012 season
Graeme McDowell, the Northern Irish professional golfer turned into a professional back in 2002. Before stepping onto the professional level, McDowell had a highly successful amateur career.
The 33-year-old golfer currently plays on the Professional Golf Association and the European Tour. With 9 professional wins to his name, the Northern Irish player has major chunk of his success on the European Tour.
However, he is one of the major contenders of any tournament that he participates in.
During the fourth tournament after he stepped into the professional level, the golfer went on to win his first title – he won the Volvo Scandinavian Masters by playing scintillating golf.
McDowell started his 2012 season with a decent performance in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship, which is one of the European Tour events.
After winning the U.S. Open two years ago, McDowell has finally performed as well as he would have wanted to.
He had his good times on the fairways but he usually failed to capitalise on the good rounds because of an inconsistent streak that has ruined his chances of winning titles on the Professional Golf Association Tour.
His best performance on the PGA Tour after winning the U.S. Open came in 2012 when he finished five strokes behind the champion and claimed the runner-up position in the Arnold Palmer Invitational tournament.
The Northern Irish golfer had respectable results in the major championships. Other than the U.S. Open, which he won in 2010, he recorded a tie at the 12th place in the Masters Tournament during the 2012 season.
His performance in The Open Championship during the 2012 season was also praise worthy, as he tied at the 5th place.
Although McDowell has made a mark on the PGA Tour with extraordinary performances during his good days, but to win titles at such a level requires consistency.
With so much competition on the Tour, one has to be on the top of his game to make any sort of impact on the leaderboard.
McDowell will be a golfer to keep a watch on during the 2013 season because he is capable of outplaying anyone on the Tour on his good days.
