Graeme http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 hails pace bowling arsenal – Cricket News Update
The triumphant South Africa captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 has lavished praise on his bowling attack, calling himself lucky to have the services of three ‘frontline seamers’.
Speaking to media reporters ahead of the third and final Test of the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 tomorrow, he said that the aggression of the bowlers has worked for them so far on the tour.
"The maturity the guys have shown as a bowling unit has been exciting for me," Smith said. "The guys have shown great discipline. There's also been great aggression thrown in there."
The 31-year-old South African opening batsman is delighted to have a mix of pacers and spinners in the attack at his disposal. The Proteas assistant coach, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Russell-c87177 Domingo had recently revealed that Smith had never been happier with the bowling unit since taking
over as the South African captain in 2003, at the age of just 22 years.
Smith added that during his almost decade long captaincy tenure, he has had a lot of great bowlers but the present Proteas attack is best.
"I've been lucky…the all-round attack now is terrific," said the Proteas skipper.
"To have three frontline seamers is rare for a captain. And then we've got an attacking spinner (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 Tahir) who has also showed a lot of control for us at times. In the past, we've had some great bowlers but maybe not so much the
whole rounded mindset," he added further.
Replying to a query regarding his captaincy tenure, the 31-year-old Johannesburg cricketer said that he has become a cautious captain over time.
"For me, at 22, I lacked fear because I didn't know what to expect," said Smith adding that he has gained a lot of experience in terms of dealing with pressure situations.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 lead the three-match Test series 1-0, with the first match ending in a draw, and at Wellington they will be looking to win, while New Zealand would want to draw the series by winning as well. The tourists have already
won the One Day and T20 series against the Kiwis.
