The South African team doctor and manager, Mohammed Moosajee, has revealed that the decision of resting SA skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 was made after taking into account the national team's long-term interest.
The 31-year-old opening batsmen was suffering from chronic pain in his left ankle for the past two months and after consultation with a specialist, was advised to undergo a surgery.
"When you're looking at something more long term, keeping in mind the challenges that we have ahead, we thought it might be the best opportunity to go in and get him sorted out," Moosajee told.
Earlier, the left-handed batsman was all set to participate in the high-profile Indian Premier League where he is contracted with the Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861.
“Graeme is disappointed that he's not in the IPL, but playing for his country is paramount," Moosajee added.
This is the third time the Proteas’ skipper has fell short of his obligations for his various IPL franchises. In 2010, he could play only two games out of a possible fourteen after sustaining a finger injury, which was followed by a knee complaint in last
year’s edition- forcing him to miss the remainder of the competition after playing just four games.

duties.
"With the load of cricket that is going to be played this year we decided we should have him assessed,” added the team manager.
According to doctors, this is the right time for the injured batsman to get rid of the problem, which will take at least two months to heal.
