http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 saddened by Test Championship delay – Cricket News Update
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757’s Test skipper, Graeme Smith, is not amused by the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) decision to delay the much anticipated Test Championship, till 2017.
The inaugural edition of the mega event was scheduled to be held in 2013, but cricket’s global governing body choose to postpone the event for another five years.
A few days ago, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719, announced the decision, saying that following heavy commitments to broadcasters and sponsors, it is not possible for ICC to introduce the showpiece event for the next five years.
The step has widely been criticised within cricketing circles, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598, joining the party, said that though ICC has its reasons behind the controversial move, the delay is extremely disappointing for those keenly looking forward to the mega event.
"I personally felt it wasn't the right decision for cricket. You can skip a generation in five years. As cricketers you want the ICC to make the best decisions in the interests of the game and I'm not sure that that's happened now," said Smith who is eight
shy of his century of Test matches for South Africa.
Smith and his men are currently in Johannesburg and primed to lock horns with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in the second Test, starting from Thursday, November 17, 2011.
The South African side is 1-0 up in the two-Test clash, courtesy of their emphatic eight-wicket win at Cape Town.
On his team’s preparations for the final encounter with the Aussies, who are starving for success following their humiliation in the opening Test, Smith shared that his troop is not over-confident after the first Test win.
He meanwhile, hoped of a great show by his players in the next contest, despite conceding that the Kangaroos are well capable of bouncing back.
"It's our second Test match in seven or eight months and we're really motivated to perform. We have a lot of respect for Australia and we're certainly not going to take our foot off the gas. We want to earn the right to win the series," added the 30-year-old
left-handed opening batsman who clattered a superb unbeaten ton in the previous game.
