Graeme Smith says Proteas will learn from mistakes - ICC World Cup 2011
After South Africa lost to England in a low scoring but exciting match, Graeme Smith, Captain of the Proteas spoke with the media.
He outlined his performance during the game and hoped that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 could learn from its mistakes during the 5 wicket loss to England.
The Proteas captain, Graeme Smith, stated, “Obviously on a wicket like that it was always going to be tight. It’s always disappointing to lose, I thought we played well enough for most parts of the game, but England stuck to their guns really well and at
the back end (of the SA innings)”.
He also added that it got hard for the Proteas to tickle the scoreboard in the last 15-20 overs because of a deteriorating wicket. However, he appreciated the innings played by the English team.
South Africa and England were probably aware of the fact that a World Cup game doesn't need to have over 600 runs to make it interesting. Even low scoring matches can prove to be quite exciting.
South Africa lost a match that they were in complete control of at one stage, because of the crumbling wicket. On the contrary, England would be mightily pleased with managing a win when they looked down and out.
Ravi Bopara was named as man of the match for scoring 60 runs. But he is of the view that the title should have been given to Stuart Broad for his outstanding bowling in the death overs.
Hashim Amla played well for his 98 but soon after he got out to Stuart Broad, the South African middle order found it hard to bat on a difficult wicket.
When a reporter asked Smith about his team’s performance, he replied that it was a tough game as they could not live up to the expectations. He also said that they will have to work hard before their next match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
He went on to say that the day was tense, frantic and tough but even then he enjoyed the pitch. He was quoted as saying, “It’s just nice that we’ve played a game and no one’s got a hundred against us. We have had a bit of a rollercoaster
World Cup so far”.
The South African captain, Graeme Smith is of the view that the team will work hard to give good performances in their next match against India on the 12th of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 at Nagpur.
