Graeme Smith sets eyes on the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011
Graeme Smith, the skipper of the South African cricket team has said that the revival of his team’s performance in the ODI series against India would do wonders in restoring the confidence of the players and would make them enter the World Cup event with
a positive mind.
Addressing a press conference ahead of the final match of the ODI series at Centurion, he said, “Obviously, we’d love to finish the series strong on Sunday and freshen up for the ICC CWC, which is going to be six weeks of having to be at your best. The
world cup is an opportunity that I want to give one good go with the guys and see if we can – we will love to win the World Cup.”
While talking about the final match they were going to have against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 on Sunday, the skipper said that no team had a prior advantage over the other, and the one who would perform better on the day would claim the match. He said that though he would like
to back his own side for doing well, but for that, his boys ought to do well and display good performance on the field. He was of the view that the pitch at Centurion was batting friendly and they would have to need to adapt to that.
Dwelling upon the way his team has made a comeback in the series and has locked it to 2-2, Smith said that they had learnt some important lessons in the series which had helped them in becoming smarter on the field. He added to his comments while saying
that continuing with this winning momentum was important for his team as it was crucial to have a confident start in the mega cricketing event. He regarded the ongoing matches as “pressure games” and stressed upon his boys to do well into them.
Talking about tomorrow’s match, the skipper was of the view that Jacques Kallis and Imran Tahir would be ample options for the team. He said,
“We have got a lot of options. We have got Jacques back, obviously his all-round capabilities offer us other options. And we still got http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Imran-c64193 who is available in our squad, and we are going to use him when we feel ready. As I say we have got enough options
to pick from. It’s nice to have guys like Robin Peterson and Johan (Botha) performing well with the bat. If you have got guys performing well at 8 or 9, it lengthens your batting line-up.”
