Graeme Storm retains the lead KLM Open after two rounds
Graeme Storm fired another bogey-free round on day two of the KLM Open and increased the lead to three strokes, over a group of three players, on Friday, September 7, 2012.
He followed the stunning opening-round performance for 63 on day one, with a 66 for an 11-under par overall score, heading into the final two rounds, at the Hilversumsche Golf Club.
Scott Jamieson, Peter Hanson and Gonzalo Fdez-Castaño shared the second spot, after scoring an eight-under par two-round score.
Shiv Kapoor and Pablo Larrazábal settled further two strokes back for a tied fifth place on the leaderboard.
Storm, who looks forward to winning the tournament, in a bid to strengthen his position in The Race to Dubai, recorded a total of four birdies in a flawless round.
“It makes a change to have all red on my card,” he said. “Hopefully I used all the bogeys up last week in Crans and long may it continue”.
He added, “I wasn't expecting to shoot four under. I just managed to go round and keep the bogeys off the card as I did yesterday and made a few birdies”.
Presently, he is standing at the 114th mark on money list. It is crucial for him contend strongly and record a good finish, so that he can retain his European Tour card for the next golf season.
“It's all about momentum and for two days it has gone my way,” he added. “The goal for me still is to keep my card, even though I am leading. If someone comes through then so be it, I just need my card for next year”.
Last week, Storm finished 41st at the Omega European Masters and was not expecting such a strong start in the Netherlands. However, he suddenly found his form this week and started hitting the fairways and the greens in regulations, whenever he drove the
ball.
His game with the putter still needs some improvements. Yet, he has not conceded a single bogey, because of his strength in reaching the greens in fewer shots.
Following his first round performance on Thursday, he revealed that the key to success in the tournament will be keeping the ball on the fairways. Now it seems that he himself is heading into the right direction and displaying a great set of skills.
