Graeme Swann claims that Andrew Strauss still good enough to lead England – ICC World Cup 2011
England’s off-spinner, Graeme Swann, claims that his captain, Andrew Strauss, has plenty of cricket left in him, and he can represent his team even after the ICC World Cup 2011. Earlier, there were reports that the English captain was considering quitting
from the limited form of cricket, following some poor performances by England in the mega event.
Swann stated that he didn’t expect Strauss to retire from One Day cricket, even if the team was not able to do well in the World Cup. He further added that if his captain retires, it will be surprising news for him.
England may have to suffer an early exit from this World Cup, if they lose against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. However, Swann was confident that his team will win the next match and qualify for the knockout stages. The wily off-spinner claimed, “We play our best cricket
when we've got our backs against the wall. We've proven that over the last couple of years.” He further added, “When we go one up in a Test series we tend to have a stinker before pulling out all the stops to play our best cricket. It's been the same in one-day
cricket and it's something we have to do now - otherwise, we're back home.”
England have had a mixed World Cup until now. They have played competitive cricket against good teams, but the problem for them has been against the weaker teams. The Poms narrowly managed to win a warm-up match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748, before the mega event officially
started. However, they did well to defeat http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in their second practice game.
In their Group B matches, England played well against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 defeated them in their
matches.
This saw England struggling to make it to the final eight of the tournament. However, they have one opportunity against the Windies, who are a very unpredictable side. A defeat will see England out of the mega event, and hosts Bangladesh will advance into
the quarter-finals.
