Graeme Swann confident of overcoming against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 – ICC World Cup 2011 news
England spinner Graeme Swann is confident his side will beat West Indies on Thursday and make it to the quarterfinals of the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011.
“If the wicket is as it was against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, I'll be confident about bowling England to a victory,” said the right-arm off-spinner on Monday.
England started the showpiece event as pre-tournament favourites but their form has been inconsistent so far. They have won two, lost two and tied one game from the five matches they have played so far. But the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 off-spinner was certain of
winning the World Cup if the team made it to the quarterfinals.
However, even a victory against the Windies in their final league game would not guarantee England a place in the quarterfinals and they would have to depend on the other group results for a place in the last eight of the tournament.
Swann, who was fined ten per cent of his match fee for using “obscene and offensive language” and showing dissent to an umpire during his team’s two-wicket defeat to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747, admitted that the English players are feeling tired after a long and hectic
winter.
“There's a little bit more in the tank to be honest,” said the 31-year-old while talking to a leading sports channel. “The team are tired, it's been a long winter but we are certainly not using that as an excuse because six or seven of the other teams in
world cricket share the same ludicrous schedule we do.”
Most of the England players have been on the road since end of October 2010. They had 3-month exhausting tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 where they clinched a 3-1 Ashes victory before facing a humiliating 6-1 defeat in the seven-match One Day International series. After
spending just four days at home after the Ashes tour, the side headed to the Subcontinent to participate in the ongoing World Cup.
“It's something that I believe needs to be looked at for the game as a whole because I believe there is an element of overkill,” he added further.
