Graeme Swann confident of recovering before ICC World Cup 2011
England off-spinner, Graeme Swann- who is nursing a back spasm and an injured knee- has vowed that he will be completely fit for the upcoming ICC World Cup which gets underway in the subcontinent on 19 February, 2011.
“I've had a bad back for years and, every now and again, it gives me problems. But I know from previous experience that I'll definitely be fine for the World Cup from the start,” he said.
Swann, who is currently world’s number two Test bowler, flew back home on Wednesday in the middle of the ongoing seven-match One Day International series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 after he was ruled out of the rest of the tour following a lower
back strain.
The 31-year-old bowler, who was struggling with a knee injury which he had sustained in the first Twenty20 against Australia, picked up a back spasm while changing in Hobart ahead of the second ODI.
“It happened when I was getting changed in Hobart,” told Swann the media reporters. “I bent down and felt a twinge, there was nothing more to it than that.”
The off-spinner confirmed that though the injuries have improved already but he would not feature in ensuing matches of the series as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and he himself do not want to take any risks ahead of the esteemed
World Cup.
Besides nursing the injuries, Swann will also be on paternity leave as his wife, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755
in Dhaka on 16 and 18 February due to that.
Swann said that since he will miss warm up games, he will practice with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 county. “Once I'm fit again, I'll join in with Notts' winter training,” he said.
With just three weeks to go before the much-awaited mega cricketing event, England have been hit by a number of injury concerns. Paceman Tim Bresnan has torn his calf muscle while Stuart Broad is nursing a torn stomach muscle.
Commenting on England’s expanding list of injuries ahead of World Cup, the six feet tall bowler said, “It's been a long tour away and it's taking its toll on a number of players.”
England Team Director, Andy Flower also said that it has been almost three months that the side is into the tour so these injuries are not a surprise for him or players. He was hopeful that the players will be completely fit before they
start their World Cup campaign against Holland at Nagpur on 22 February.
