England won the two-match Test series against New Zealand on Tuesday, after they routed the tourists by 247 runs in the second Test which was played at Headingley, Leeds.
England owe their victory to spinner Graeme Swann, who grabbed 10 wickets in the match and devastated the Kiwis. For New Zealand skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BB-McCullum-c1129, this was a horrible tour where nothing went their way.
The Kiwis were outplayed by the Poms in every department and they never looked in a position to challenge the hosts.
After England won the toss and chose to bat they were on top right from the start, as they hammered a massive first innings score of 354, followed by a splendid bowling performance where the Poms bowled out their
guests on a meagre 174. The hosts then bettered their lead by piling 287 runs in the second innings, giving New Zealand a target of 468.
However, the tourists lost six wickets for 158 by stumps on the penultimate day and with the game almost out of their hands, the best they could do was to pray for rain. Had the game been washed out on the final
day, New Zealand would have been spared the embarrassment of going two down in the contest.

the New Zealand skipper for one. At the time of this wicket, New Zealand were struggling on 162. With their skipper back in the pavilion, there wasn’t anyone left in the batting line-up to take them close to the asking target.
Southee and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Doug-Bracewell-c1394 chipped the ball around to take the score to 218 before Swann struck and sent Southee back home. The New Zealander found his way off the field after scoring 38 runs.
With 220 on the scoreboard, the English spinner struck once more and completed his ten-wicket haul by dismissing Bracewell for 19.
