http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501 vows to turn from Test joker to T20I skipper – Cricket News Update
Graeme Swann, the specialist spinner of Team http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 by the end of this month.
The offspinner, who is famous among his teammates and fans alike for being a witty man, has been given the reins of the team in absence of the full-time skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SCJ-Broad-c2465, who is injured. It will be Chin’s first chance to lead the side he has been bowling
for since the last eleven years.
Earlier, the team’s ODI skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, was a contender for T20 captaincy, but the England Cricket Board (ECB) picked Swann for this task on the basis of his excellent bowling skills and tremendous performances.
Despite his intentions to change his soft attitude, the spinner turned skipper is not ready to employ a hardcore approach as he claims that his wit has made him a good and renowned cricketer.
Talking to the media, Swann said, “It's a Twenty20 series with a lot of young lads, so I'll have to change the way I am from the Test side. With this Twenty20, I'd naturally have to be more grown-up and mature about things anyway.”
He further told, “I'm very much the joker in the Test side. I'm there for a stupid quip at the end of the session - that's part of my role. But that's a very settled side, with everyone knowing their place. I believe a fairly high-spirited approach has made
me the cricketer I am.”
Swann has played an instrumental role in his team’s seven consecutive victories over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the ongoing series. He grabbed a marvellous 9-wicket haul in the last npower Test which the Poms won to whitewash the 4-match series against India.
The 32-year-old spinner has 36 Test, 59 ODI and 24 T20I matches to his credit with 153, 85 and 33 wickets respectively in three formats.
After playing the 5th and last ODI of the series tomorrow, September 16, Swann will focus on preparing his guys for the Caribbean challenge.
