England’s ace off-spinner, Graeme Swann, thinks that the reigning World Champions in Twenty20 are not playing enough games before they embark on a journey to Sri Lanka to defend their title.
Swann will be leading the English team, as their regular skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 for two Twenty20 to be played
at the Oval on September 23 and 25 respectively.
The skipper wants England to play more Twenty20 matches and hopes that in future series the number of games will be increased.
Expressing his views on the topic, Swann said, “It defies belief to me that we only play one T20 match per team per year because it is the up and coming game and the biggest game in the short format.
I believe somewhere down the line we'll have to start treating it more seriously and playing series' of T20 games.”
He further said, “Going into Sri Lanka we're only playing four or five games before that tournament starts. I don't think it would be frowned upon if there was a three-game one-day series and a three-game
Twenty20 series. I think that makes more sense than five one-dayers.”
The series between England and West Indies was not on the cards earlier this year. It was scheduled later as the Poms were short of broadcasting commitments.
Swann said that English team were not passionate about the series at first. However, considering that they have only a number of matches before the World Cup, the importance of the series is greater
than before.
The 32-year-old off-spinner will be leading a young side as certain senior players are not taking part in this series. Swann reckons that including spinners in the squad is a good ploy as the World Cup
will be played on sub-continental pitches, which aid spin bowling. According to the stand-in skipper, the Poms will have to accommodate more spinners in the side if they want success in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
Swann praised the young spinners http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scott-Borthwick-c2466, who made their way into the national side after strong domestic performances. The 32-year-old wished that both the youngsters can continue doing the good work at
the International level as well
