Graeme White to stay at Trent Bridge for another two seasons – Cricket News Update
Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club on Friday handed spinner Graeme White a new two-year contract, which means the left-arm spinner will stay at Trent Bridge until the end of 2012 season.
The 25-year-old Buckinghamshire spinner had joined http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Northamptonshire-c824 two years ago and has been a regular member of Notts’ one-day and Twenty20 side since then.
However, he is yet to cement his place in the championship side, experienced spinner Samit Patel’s presence in the side being one realistic reason behind it.
The wicket at Trent Bridge traditionally favours seam bowlers, and the county rarely plays two slow bowlers here. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Huzefa-Mohammed-Patel-c63657, being more experienced, grabs the spot for lone spinner.
But White, who made just five first class appearances last season, is hoping http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Samit-Patel-c2426’s success with the national side will create more opportunities for him the next season.
“I've had to be patient in terms of four-day cricket because Samit Patel is ahead of me,” said the left-arm slow bowler while speaking to media reporters after contract extension. “…but I've been pleased with what I've been able to do when I've had my chance,” he added further.
White, who is a regular member of Nottinghamshire’s limited-overs sides, said that he enjoyed playing Twenty20 cricket more.
“The Friends Life T20 matches at Trent Bridge have been particularly enjoyable for me and I would hope that we can reach finals day again soon,” said the left-arm spinner, who has to date played 31 Twenty20 matches picking up 21 wickets, at 24.85, with a career best of 3 for 22.
Nottinghamshire’s Director of Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Michael-Newell-c76124 said White’s bowling has steadily improved over the last two years, and was confident he will be key to the side in the absence of first choice spinner Samit Patel.
“Graeme's bowling has steadily improved and we're more than confident in handing him the ball in all formats,” said Newell.
“He's key to the way we play t20 cricket and when he gets a chance with the red ball it's important that he grasps it because the spin bowling in Samit's absence will be key to any success that we have,” he concluded.
