Graham DeLaet aims to end Canadian winning drought in the local event
Players such as Graham DeLaet are not generally asked to make appearances in the press tents, especially when they have only five top-10 career finishes recorded to their names.
However, it is a completely different story for the Canadian players participating in this week’s RBC Canadian Open at the Hamilton Golf and Country Club.
Graham DeLaet played a charity event on Monday and came in front of a bunch of reporters on Tuesday to make few comments about his experiences and other related stuff.
According to him, he loves to play golf in Canada because of the support he receives from the local golf fans.
“I appreciate all the support in Canada, and I know I got a lot of fans and people cheering for me, and it's part of the job, I guess, but I enjoy it at the same time and I'm looking forward to the week”.
During the current PGA Tour season, he has succeeded in registering two top-10 finishes so far. Also, he tied for the 12th position in his last appearance on the tour – the Greenbrier Classic.
Therefore, he is expected to make another good start, especially when he is scheduled to play in front of his home crowd.
“I think all in all it's been a decent year” he said. “It's amazing how fast the year goes by. We're already in mid July and at the Canadian Open”.
“Apart from the golf there's more stuff on the side that I have to do, but it's once a year for me. I don't know some of the big guys do it every single week, kind of being pulled inform different directions”.
DeLaet is currently playing on a major medical exemption after missing all of the 2011 PGA Tour season because of injury issues.
Through a strong finish at the Greenbrier Classic early this month, he has accumulated a total of $674,230 as prize money. Therefore, it is now safe for him to play any event on the tour for the rest of the season.
He, along with other Canadians participating in the event, is in hunt for the first victory in the Canadian Open, since Pat Fletcher did it in 1954.
