Graham DeLaet registers his best finish of the 2012 PGA Tour season at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans
Graham DeLaet carded a one-under par 71 in the final round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans to tie for the fourth position on Sunday, April 29, 2012.
It was DeLaet’s best finish of the 2012 PGA Tour season, earning him a $281,600 prize money.
He is currently playing on the PGA Tour through a major medical extension, as he underwent micro discectomy in January, 2011.
“I had a micro diskectomy surgery in Boise on January 3rd of 2011,” he said. “Last year was tough for me. I worked so hard to get out here, kept my card, and kind of felt like it was all taken away”.
He has played a total of 12 events in the 2012 season so far, making the cut eight times. The fourth place in the tournament was the second top-10 finish of his campaign to retain the PGA Tour card.
Earlier, he tied for the ninth place in the Puerto Rico Open presented by seepuertorico.com in March, 2012.
Moreover, it was his second best finish on the tour, as his best performance came in the 2010 Shell Houston Open, where he tied for the third position.
According to him, he played really well throughout the tournament. However, the scores did not actually portray what he did on the course.
"Actually, I've been playing well," DeLaet said after the third round. "The results haven't been there, but I'm confident in my game and it's been a little bit frustrating because I feel I'm playing better than my results".
While entering the final round, he needed to earn $453,430 to play the full PGA Tour season in 2013. Now, he only needs to make $171,830 in 10 tournaments that he is scheduled to play this year.
On the other hand, Jason Dufner recorded the first ever PGA Tour victory of his career after defeating Ernie Els on the second extra hole in the playoffs.
Both the players tied for the top position with a 19-under par tournament score each.
Therefore, the game was forced to enter into the playoffs, where Els missed an easy six-footer chance for a birdie on the first extra hole. That gave Dufner another life, and he made the most of it with a birdie against Els’ par shot.
