Graham Henry declares teaching more fascinating than coaching the All Blacks- Rugby News
Graham Henry, head coach of the All Blacks, has stated that his teaching career is more fascinating than his current role of coaching the World’s Number 1 team. He expressed these thoughts while talking to the media during his visit to his alma mater, University
of Massey, on July 21.
One of the best rugby coaches of the world shared his experiences with students and said that he had enjoyed his time at the University. He added that his experiences of being a student and teacher are the real motivation behind his success.
Henry further stated that educational institutions can play a vital role to promote the sport of rugby among the newer generation. He added that, “I was involved in education for 25 years. I loved it and got a lot of personal satisfaction out of it. Being
a school teacher is way more important than being an All Black coach.”
Henry further went on say that, “The universities are going out of their way to ensure international sports people get opportunities to do that and they will bend the system to enable them to. They may sit exams overseas, they may have a longer course rather
than a short course, or it may be that they do two papers instead of six a year.”
Graham Henry started off his coaching career in 1973 for Auckland Grammar School and continued this job for eight years. He joined Kelston High School for a decade and served there as a rugby coach from 1982 to 1991, before taking the charge of the provincial
side of Auckland. Henry became a Super Rugby coach in 1996 when he joined Blues for two years in 1996.
The tactful coach was considered for his splendid services in the field of coaching and was offered to take the charge of the national side by Welsh Rugby Union. He has also served British and Irish Lions as coach before joining the All Blacks. Henry has
been working with the All Blacks since 2004 and has rendered invaluable services to his country.
