Graham Henry not interested in England coaching role – Rugby News
All Blacks' former coach, Graham Henry, has ruled out the possibility of taking charge of English team as a head coach. The ex-All Blacks coach told the media on November 22, that he has no desire of coaching any side after doing the job in 140 tests. However,
the world cup winning coach for All Blacks said that he could think about an offer involving him in the advisory panel.
The position has been left vacant by Martin Johnson, who stepped down from the position during the current month. Johnson was under fire after his side cut a sorry figure in the Rugby World Cup which forced him to quit before his tenure came to an end. Martin
Johnson was due to serve Rugby Football Union until the end of 2011 but he surprisingly took an early decision to depart.
Graham Henry has remained a highly successful coach with several different teams. He started off his international coaching career with Wales in 1996. He joined the All Blacks in 2004 and won them a much awaited title of RWC after the hard work of seven
years.
Meanwhile, Rugby Football Union is passing through a difficult phase since last few months. There has been a great upheaval in their executive board. Numbers of changes have been made in key official posts but nothing worked in their favour.
Talking to the reporters about his future plans, Henry said that, “I am contracted to the New Zealand Rugby Union until the end of March. I have no desire to coach a team. I have done 140 Tests and that is probably enough. I have been very privileged. I
just think it is time to move on [from Test rugby].”
He further said that, “You never say never but my desire is to live in New Zealand predominantly. If there is someone who wants me in this part of the world as an advisor, perhaps a Heineken Cup team, I would be interested in looking at that. That interests
me and I like what I see in that competition.”
Rugby Football is expected to announce the new coach in the first month of 2012.
