Graham Motion has indicated that he will send Lucky Chappy to run in the CashCall Futurity
Irish bred colt owned by Team Valor and trained Graham Motion, Lucky Chappy’s ticket might be punched from Motion’s training centre at Maryland to California because Graham Motion plans to send him to Hollywood Park to prepare him for his next start in the Grade 1, $750,000 CashCall Futurity on 17 December, 2011, over at 1 1/16 miles on synthetic surface, strictly for 2-year-old males.
The son of High Chaparral, out of mare Germane by Distant Relative, Lucky Chappy is coming off a fourth place finish in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011.
With Joel Rosario in irons, Lucky Chappy in the field of 14 juvenile colts ran a big race, but couldn’t find room in the congested lot at the end as he finished fourth to another High Chaparral colt, Wrote.
Excaper and Farraaj finished second and third, respectively, while Wrote bogged down the field to cover the 1 1/16 mile distance in 1 minute and 37.41 seconds.
Prior to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, Lucky Chappy was coming off a third place finish in the Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes for trainer Graham Motion.
Over at a distance of 1 1/16 miles, Lucky Chappy was making his first start on American soil still managed a placed finish in the Bourbon Stakes when he finished third to winner Animal Spirits and second place finisher Coalport as Animal Spirits topped the distance in 1 minute and 44.24 seconds at Keeneland on 9 October, 2011.
The Grade 1 CashCall Futurity has reeled in some serious talent, as the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint winner Secret Circle will probably head the lineup to win the race.
The Bob Baffert trained colt will be under Rafael Bejarano to capture the $750,000 race. On the other hand another Bob Baffert trained colt, the winner of the $100,000 Hollywood Prevue, So Brilliant will join Lucky Chappy and the $100,000 Real Quiet Stakes winner Liaison, in the CashCall Futurity.
Another Bob Baffert trained Sky Kingdom will take the Futurity field after his win in the maiden special weight race at Hollywood Park.
