Graham Motion’s charge Went The Day Well to discontinue season due to severe bone bruising
The Graham Motion trained, Went The Day Well, will not be able to continue the rest of his season, since he sustained an injury.
It was reported that the three-year-old colt will not be able to continue racing due to the fact that he has bone bruising in his front ankles. Barry Irwin, who represents the owners, Team Valor International, stated to the media that:
"Fortunately there are no fractures or chips or spurs, but the deep bone bruising in his front ankles was severe."
The son of Proud Citizen previously competed in the Grade 1 Preakness Stakes at the Pimlico Racecourse in May, 2012, where he finished tenth under rider, John Velazquez, to the eventual winner, I’ll Have Another.
The owner’s representative further elaborated and stated:
"It is probably why he ran so poorly in the Preakness (gr. I). It didn't show up until he was put back in hard training and breezed.”
Foaled by Tiznow mare Tiz Maies Day, the sophomore has done well in his short-career span.
Out of his five career starts, he has managed to secure two victories and has earnings of $415, 344.
The colt delivered a brilliant performance in the Grade 3 Spiral Stakes at Turfway Park on 24th
March, 2012, where he was paired with John Velazquez.
With the help of his talented rider and courtesy of his swift pace, the runner completed the 1 1/8 mile race in 1 minute and 51.33 seconds, and defeated Todd Pletcher’s charge, Holiday Promise, by 3 ½ lengths while Heavy Breathing, finished in third
place.
The connections of this runner are taking the precautionary measures to ensure that the sophomore recovers and gets back to the track.
For now the best thing to do is to let him rest and give him some time.
The runner began his career in England but, was purchased by Team Valor International after he showed his potential. He did particularly well in the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, from 17th place, he managed to finish in 4th,
where he lost the victory by 2 ½ lengths to, I’ll Have Another.
