Graham Onions replaces Chris Woakes on the English ODI squad – Cricket News Update
After the recent speculations over changes on England’s touring One Day International (ODI) squad against India, a first alteration has recently been confirmed after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Onions-c1449 comes on board to replace the injured Chris Woakes, who was ruled out off
the national roster after suffering a thigh strain.
The news was further confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), which stated that Woakes will be omitted from the remaining 3 fixtures from the on-going 5-match ODI series between the Indian hosts and the Poms.
“England bowler Chris Woakes has today been ruled out of the remainder of England's one-day international tour of India due to a left quadriceps strain,” a statement from the ECB said.
“Woakes suffered the injury on Sunday during England practice in Delhi and will now undertake a rehabilitation period that rules him out of the remaining three ODIs against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. Durham’s Graham Onions has been called into the squad as a replacement and
will join the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 ahead of the fourth ODI.”
The English visitors have already had two outings with the Men in Blue, but to their despair, stand without a win, after suffering a humiliating 126 runs loss on the series opener and then an 8 wickets rout on the preceding game in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780.
However, Captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, who previously enjoyed a triumphant stint against the Indian tourists in England, still feels that the team has ample time to look into areas where they failed during the last two games, and make sure not repeat the mistakes
in order to dominate the hosts.
As for Onions, the right-armed medium pacer will be making his appearance for the Poms in their upcoming, 3rd fixture of the series against India, which kicks off on October 20, 2011 at Mohali.
The last time Onions played an ODI for England was against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 2009, soon after which the 29-year-old had to call off his commitment due to a back injury.
Since his debut that year, Onions has played 4 ODIs for England, bagging as many wickets from the lot, averaging at 46.25.
