Graham Thorpe appointed ECB batting coach
Former English middle-order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-c60529 Thorpe has been appointed the lead batting coach of the English Cricket Board. Thorpe comes in place of Dene Hills who was in the role for two year. Hills is
moving back to Australia.
According to the English cricket board’s performance director, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/David-Parsons-c53139, Thorpe will bring his huge international experience to the table.
He said, "Graham has a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach and he will play a vital role working with some of the very best young batsmen in the game and ensuring they are able to excel when
they make the step up to the full international side.”
Thorpe was one of the best batsmen in the last couple of decades. He had announced his retirement during the 2005 edition of the Ashes, after Kevin Pietersen had taken over the middle-order berth in the
playing eleven. Immediately after the retirement, Thorpe joined the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 as the batting
coach.
Thorpe will now work with the youngsters in the England Performance Programme squad and with the England Lions team. He will now travel to Australia with the Performance squad as a batting coach.
Parsons also said that what had tipped the scales in his favour was his work with the England Lions earlier this year. According to Parsons, the players and the management had been very pleased with his effort
with the team.
Thorpe acknowledged that it would be difficult to leave his county club but the opportunity to coach the future cricketers was very tempting.
“I am very grateful to Surrey for giving me the chance to develop my coaching career and wish Chris Adams and all the players the best of luck next season,” he said.
