Grainne Murphy aims for 2011 Irish Long Course National Championships
18-year-old Irish swimmer, Grainne Murphy claims she will give her best at the 2011 Irish Long Course National Championships starting on April 28 in Dublin.
The championship is a trial basis for the national swimmers to prove their qualification into the Irish Swimming team to compete at the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai.
Murphy, who has already paved her way to China for the World Championships desires to provide more to her fans before her performance at the world stage of Shanghai. She is the silver medallist for the Women’s 1500m freestyle at the 2010 European Long Course
Championships in Budapest.
Her team member, Barry Murphy will not appear in the national trials, as he stays in the United States. Barry has clocked the eighth fastest time for the 2011 early world rankings in the 100m breast-stroke earlier.
Furthermore, another Irish swimmer, Ryan Harrison, who is the fastest 200m freestyle swimmer in all US colleges, will compete at an international US meet along with his fellow Andrew Bree to confirm their spots in the Irish team.
Harrison, who competed at the US college swimming meet in yards, need to post a time in metres under the FINA Time Qualification Standard to qualify for the Shanghai Championships this July. The deadline for qualification in the team has been announced as
May 31. Whereas, Murphy, Harrison and Bree are going to participate at the sixth stop of 2010-11 USA Grand Prix Series in Charlotte during May.
The Charlotte meet will provide them a chance to compete with the likes of Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte, where they can use the experience of swimming elites.
In addition, the coach to Irish Swimming Team, Peter Banks said, "There will be an exciting start to today's events at the NAC as both Grainne and Melanie Nocher have entered the women's 200 metres freestyle.”
“Our intention is to run a women's 4 x 200 freestyle relay team at the World's and this is an ideal opportunity for the girls to collectively make the qualifying standard,” added the Coach.
The national championship will conduct its preliminary rounds in the morning, whereas the finals of the same events will commence in the evening session and the Irish team for Shanghai will be announced after its last session on May 1.
