My book says that the following sentence is correct:

After her walk, she lay down for a short nap.

  1. Yes it's correct, but you're probably used to hearing it something like "after her walk, she laid down for a short nap" because when using the word after, you assume it's past tense and use a past tense verb.

    Present: lie

    Past: lay

    Past Participle: lain

    • I think I’ll lie down for a while.

    • Yesterday I lay awake instead of napping.
