Is it "Good, thank you" or "Well, thank you?" I usually just say "Great" or "Fine" because I don't know which is correct....

  1. 'Great' or 'fine' is ok to use if it is between friends, but adding the 'thank-you' makes it more formal, and is more appropriate between acquaintances.

    Does this help?

  2. There is no one way of responding to this.

    Depends on your mood as well as custom.

    It's usual to say;

    Informal: Good and you?

                  Fine, how about you?

    Formal: I am fine, thank you.

  3. Ahhhh, there's good news. Both are correct. Your, "great" or "fine" are correct too but informal.

  4. they are all ok.....but Well, thank you, is the more "respectable" one, and it also gives the impression of sounding more intelligent.

  5. The grammatically correct and more formal response would be "I am well, thank you."

    To say that you are "good" implies that you are morally upright. That's a judgment and one we do not make about ourselves, generally.

    When someone asks "how are you?" the implication is that they are asking about your health or general state of well-being. It's a nicety.

    You most certainly can respond "Just fine!" or "Great!" There's nothing wrong with that at all.
