Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya pre-race press conference starts the event – MotoGP news
The fifth round of the current MotoGP season, Gran Premi Aperol de Catalunya will take place on June 5, 2011. It is the second Spanish round of the premier class 2011 season.
MotoGP riders Casey Stoner, Ben Spies, Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo and Toni Elias with fellow riders gathered up at Montmelo circuit for the pre-event press meeting.
With the start of the Catalan GP, the tough schedule will see six races in through eight weeks. This busy session of the year will end with the Red Bull US Grand Prix on July 24, 2011.
Repsol Honda rider’s trio will miss Dani Pedrosa on his home ground as his teammates Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso will carry the Honda reign in the fifth round at Barcelona.
At the press conference, Casey Stoner said, “It’s always nice to have a small break. I’m not feeling the best at the moment but you’re always more enthusiastic after a break. We had a great weekend at Le Mans and I really enjoy this circuit, and I think
the Honda will go well here.”
The Australian rider is well aware of the busy task ahead and feels that every rider in premier class is professional enough to handle such schedules. He also shared some words on Dani Pedrosa’s health, for which he said that it will be hard for him to miss
his home event. Stoner expects to see his teammate Pedrosa on the track at Silverstone.
Yamaha Factory Racing rider, Jorge Lorenzo expects to see a warm welcome in his hometown. The Spaniard said, “This is the closest GP to home for me and I live in Barcelona, so I feel at home here which is very important.”
He also added that the M1 will be more useful at the Catalan circuit due to high-speed corner traction as the circuit consists of many fast flowing bends. He also commented on the Le Mans incident between Pedrosa and Marco Simoncelli, saying that Pedrosa
will not be in the race and Simoncelli has realised his mistake and will be more careful in future.
Ducati rider, Valentino Rossi is back after missing last season’s Catalan event with his first podium of 2011 with the Ducati GP11.
Let’s see how the weekend turns out to be for the fifth round of the 2011 season.
