Gran Turismo 5 DLC to come every two months and Gran Turismo 6 is in development
Polyphony Digital, the developer behind the legendary Gran Turismo series, have announced that they will be releasing Downloadable Content for their latest game, Gran Turismo 5, every two months.
Released last year on the 24th of November, Gran Turismo 5 is almost a year old, yet it only received its first DLC pack a few weeks ago. Now it seems that Polyphony Digital are looking to address that issue with plans for regular DLC packs.
The game came back into the spotlight after the inspiration behind the series, Kazunori Yamauchi, announced a Spec 2.0 update, which not only brought with it a host of changes and improvements but also allowed the game to benefit from DLC packs as well.
Yamauchi explained that the updates leading up to Spec 2.0 were crucial and put the game in the DLC compatible stage that it is today, “It’s been about a year since we’ve released the game and in the interim we’ve had about 15 updates that were performed
on the game. These set up the basic platform for the system. Now that we have that out of the way, we’re ready to release more expansions and content to add to the game.”
When asked as to what the DLCs would include, Yamauchi gave an open answer and explained that it would depend on customer feedback and the reaction of the fans, though for now the plan was to release DLCs that would include, “cars and trucks”.
He did not stop there as he affirmed what he’s said earlier on and confirmed that the studio was already working on the next instalment in the long-running driving simulation series when he said, “Of course we’re working on Gran Turismo 6 already.”
However, he did not specify whether or not the game would be released on the PlayStation 3 or on the next generation of Sony’s video game console. He did however give away the ethos behind the project and explained that Gran Turismo 6 would be based around
the features that the DLC would not allow.
He explained, “...the separating factor is; something that we can’t update through a DLC is something that obviously has to be saved for GT6 (Gran Turismo).”
It seems that racing fans can expect both a fair amount of DLCs to be released over the coming months and can take solace from the fact that Mr. Yamauchi and his team at Polyphony Digital are already working on the next game in the series.
Yet, at the same time one has to wonder when that game will come out, as GT fans already have a bad experience of having to wait for what seemed like an eternity for Gran Turismo 5 to eventually come out.
