Gran Turismo 5 Spec 2.0 Update and DLC details? – Part 1
The mastermind behind the Gran Turismo series, Kazunori Yamauchi, has everyone guessing about what he and Polyphony Digital are up to when he tweeted that an update and a Downloadable Content Pack were on their way this October.
The tweet read, “GT (Gran Turismo) fans, thanks for waiting...the GT5 Spec 2.0 update is coming the 3rd week of October, with DLC following a week later.”
Those 135 characters have every GT fan wondering what exactly Spec 2.0 will hold. It is a known fact that when Gran Turismo 5 finally hit the market, it left gamers with mixed emotions.
Yes, the driving part was solid and the premium modelled cars looked absolutely gorgeous, but at the same time the game felt incomplete with its often bland tracks, environments and standard modelled cars among other issues.
It seemed a case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, as the game had two distinct personalities; it was both sublime and imperfect. A number of updates were released which not only added new features to the game, but also fixed some of the bugs and issues gamers
were complaining about. The total number of updates released to this day stands at 13, which averages more than one update a month.
Continuing the trend of Polyphony Digital supporting its title, the studio is now set to release a massive update in the shape of Spec 2.0. We know it’s massive because if it was not then it would have been titled 1.14, but it is not.
The move does make sense, as Gran Turismo 5 had the basics nailed down perfectly and just needed a bit of tweaking here and a few fixes there, something the new update will be looking to address on more than just one front.
Yet, with no confirmation or hint as to what the update will hold, we thought that we would come up with a few possible ideas.
More Premium Modelled cars: the game that is all about cars had over 200 of the most gorgeous digitally recreated models in the world of gaming. However, on the other side there were over a 1,000 which were not so pretty.
Whether Polyphony Digital is updating all or a majority of the cars to Premium status is a possibility, while the fact that new cars could be added to the roster can be just as likely. Either way, more cars seem to be on everyone’s mind.
More tracks with environment detail: the roads and tracks in Gran Turismo 5 felt the way they should, yet the surroundings did not. The texture of the grass, the stands and the overall environment felt as if they were an afterthought.
Hopefully, the update will look to address these issues and maybe even add a few new tracks.
With the two major things one could ask for in the update out of the way, it is important to note that these could also be a part of the DLC. One can easily imagine a Gran Turismo 5 Ultimate Car Pack, or a Track Pack, hitting the PlayStation Network.
