Granada Hills boys volleyball team defeats Narbonne by 3-0
Tuesday turned out to be a day to remember for the Granada Hills boys volleyball team as they were able to hand out a defeat to Narbonne by making a clean sweep over them.
The match in which both the teams competed against each other was the semi-final of the City Section Division 1.
Not only were the Highlanders able to defeat their rivals by winning three back to back sets, they did so in a dominating fashion. The first two sets of the match were won by comfortable margins and it was only in the third set that Narbonne was able to
put up some challenge for the Highlanders. By the time that Granada Hills was celebrating its well deserved win that has taken them all the way into the championship match and Narbonne was heading out of the courts with heads hung low, the scoreboard read
as 25-15, 25-19 and 25-21.
With their recent win, the number one ranked Granada Hills team has been able to improve their overall number of wins to 20. They also have three losses. As opposed to the performance statistics of Granada Hills, the overall season record of Narbonne is
impressive. They have been able to win 31 games and lost seven as well.
The Highlanders put in a well-coordinated effort that led them towards the semi-final win. They proved to be superior to Narbonne in all aspects of the game. However, the area that contributed most in putting the pressure on Narbonne was the relentless attack
of the Highlanders. The offense of Granada Hills kept on raining down kills on Narbonne that kept them on their toes. The defence of Narbonne was too weak to respond appropriately to the precise attack of the Highlanders.
Sean Greene, who is the junior middle blocker on the Highlanders team was able to register the highest number of kills for his team. Greene kept the scoreboard ticking by posting a total of 14 kills. He was helped by his teammate Ryan Sikorsky who added
13 kills of his own.
When the match had ended, Coach Tom Harp of the Highlanders said, “That's been one of our strengths all year. We have five hitters who can pick each other up. Last year we only had one returner. But this year we have four returners, and that experience has
paid off. The final has been our goal all season. I think they finally realize how close they are.”
