Granada vs. Real Mallorca match suspended after match official wounded by a spectator – La Liga News
Rock bottom Granada welcomed Joaquin Caparros’ http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/RCD-Mallorca-c40326 at Los Carmenes in this La Liga encounter. After a lively hour of play, the match was suspended when a match official was wounded by a spectator.
The match started lively after on-loan Portuguese midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Gustavo-c15404 Martins, scored for the hosts. It gave the home team a good return into the match after being run ragged in the first half. However, with less than half an hour to go, scenes at Los Carmenes
turned ugly.
A spectator threw an umbrella onto the pitch that wounded an assistant referee. The clash was interrupted and the perpetrator identified. In what was a good gesture, the spectators pointed out the culprit.
As the minutes passed by, it was eventually decided to suspend the Primera Division encounter with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to set up an arbitration committee.
The chairman of Granada football club, Quique Pina, said the suspension of the meeting confirmed that police had the fan in custody who threw an umbrella from the stands.
"Our comprehension? We did not deserve it. The culprit was not a member, he was a minor and a juvenile," he said.
The young man came to La Liga fixture together with another co-host association to which he belongs to, at the invitation of the club’s request and under the supervision of a guardian.
Pina spared no adjectives in showing his repulsion at the incidents of the day. "We regret this act of violence that stains the image of the institution and the city. It is an un-presentable act within the stadium," he said.
Sixty minutes into the match and everyone on the stands were excited. Martins fouled a Mallorca player and was cautioned for his actions. The juvenile in audience was unable to calm down and supposedly took it personally.
He attacked Javier Rodriguez Aguilar, one of the colleagues of lineman Clos Gomez. The trio left the field for arbitration and medical treatment.
The medics attended to the assistant in the locker room. Aguilar rejected rumours of massive trauma and stated that he had suffered "a small scratch" on the face. However, Clos Gomez was adamant: "After an attack, we cannot continue."
