We are planning to go to grand canyon and so I have looked around for tours but so far, I have not seen one which will take us to the south rim and the skywalk (which is on the west rim) as well. I have looked around for bus tours, i've also tried looking for helicopter/plane tours. It looks like I'll have to choose one, not both, considering that we only have one day to spare because we still want to see vegas..please help..Thanks!

  1. definately just go to the south rim.  the skywalk is way over priced and a long drive.  not sure about bus tours, I usually see them in the papers all the time, or ck with priceline.com, not sure where u are coming from either.  just ck local bus lines, they usually have info on that.  as far as helicopters, I took aride once, again, overpriced, and the view is actully better standing on the rim.  You are still up 2000 ft, whats another 300 or 500 ft, then u can only look out one side of the ride.  oh its a thrill, but as far as views, its better standing on the edge. Oh I know, anywhere in arizona or nearby states, ck in the lobby of hotels, they have tons of brochures for grand canyon tours, just thought of that.

  2. Definitly the south rim... for all the reasons the first poster mentioned.  I haven't been to the skywalk, but hear it's kind of over-rated, as far as a tourist attraction goes.  Cool concept and all, but not worth the long drive to go to it.

  3. Save your money and skip the Skywalk. The Grand Canyon doesn't need a man made structure to view it's beauty.

  4. Either place is great.  Take whatever the tour gets you to.  Or rent a car and go to Skywalk. /

  5. The national park on the south rim is vastly preferable to the Skywalk, for a number of reasons: price, frustration (long trip to get to the Skywalk, many restrictions, few amenities, etc.).  The area of the Skywalk isn't really in the main canyon, anyway, and you see the same thing you could see standing anywhere on the canyon's rim, which runs for hundreds of miles.  Grand Canyon Village is much nicer.

  6. Agree with the previous posters.  The Skywalk was created by the local Native American tribe and it can cost upwards of $100/person to get near the Skywalk.  Also, you're not allowed to take any video and I believe any camera equipment on the Walk.  Want a coffee at the Skywalk?  Be prepared to buy the coffee mug in the souvenir shop.  From what I hear, it's legalized robbery.

  7. SOUTH RIM FOR SURE!
