I am looking into two cruises for May 2008. The itineraries are the same except for one of them stops at Grand Cayman and the other in Belize City. Which one would you recommend over the other and why?

  1. The Cayman's are awesome!  I did the Stingray tour and that was the best...

  2. Grand Cayman is beautiful.  The beaches are just great.  Belize is more rain forest.  Depends on what you want to do.  I would pick Grand Cayman!

  3. I think both stops are worthwhile, but it really depends on your interests. I personally like Grand Cayman better. The beaches on Grand Cayman are beautiful, and is much more relaxing than Belize.

  4. I have been to both Grand Cayman and Belize.  I like both or them, but I would choose Grand Cayman over Belize any day.  Grand Cayman is very pretty and the water is the prettiest I have ever seen.  Belize is nice, not as much to do there.  You have to pay for a trip if you really want to do something in Belize.  In Grand Cayman you can just go to the beach and hang out or shop and eat.  They both are nice but Grand Cayman is my chose.

  5. grand cayman sounds really nice, if you like beaches.

i would look at reviews at cruisecritic.com. People have probably gone on that cruise before you and can give some idea of what its like. Good luck to you.

  6. Cayman for sure... much nicer.

Even though is tender operation, which is boring.

  7. i haven't been to Belize yet, but my cruise in Feb  '08 is scheduled to stop there as long as it is cleaned from Hurricane Dean which ripped through the other day.

i was in Grand Cayman 2 cruises ago. we went on the Stingray City excursion. that was fun. the Caymans are expensive, though. even a beer was like $5 (US). i told my wife to limit her shopping there.

  8. As far as just getting off the ship and walking around much, Belize is NOT the place, but if you plan a shore excursion, then Belize is really nice.  We recently went to Belize and did a cave tubing excursion..set up a private tour for 22 people, it was awesome, plus we got to see some of the country side, then walked through the rain forrest getting to the river.  AWESOME.

If you are interested in getting off the ship and just exploring on your own or spending time at the beach then Grand Cayman would be the way to go.  Also they have Senior Frogs, Hard Rock Cafe and lots of other party spots to go to.

Depends on what you want to do.  Either port you will have a great time.

  9. I was in Belize about 2 years ago....after we got off the ship, we signed up for an excursion that took you on about a 30-40 minute boat ride to Caye Caulker, a tiny island off the coast that only has golf carts on it.  We (a group of about 10) snorkeled off the reef (2nd largest in the world -- I got to see some small sharks and hold a stingray) and then had lunch at a little restaurant on Caye Caulker before we returned.  There was another excursion that we wanted to do, but had to pick only one....the cave tubing.  It sounded fun as well.

I have been to Grand Cayman twice...I enjoyed it, but not like Belize.

I am going back to Belize in November, and I want my fiance to experience the Caye Caulker excursion...I loved it.

  10. Been to both multiple times --- GRAND CAYMAN
